Nebraska man killed, 2 injured in separate crashes on ‘The Dragon’

MARYVILLE (WATE) – Two separate accidents on the section of U.S. Highway 129 in Blount County known as “The Dragon” claimed a Nebraska man’s life and sent two others to the hospital.

Both accidents happened near mile marker 9 around 2 p.m. IN the first one, Gary Odenback, 64, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was driving his Harley Davidson trike northbound when he lost control in a sharp right hand curve. The trike rolled three times and came to a rest on the roadway,

Gary Odenback was killed in the crash. His wife Cathy Odenback was airlifted to UT Medical Center.

In another crash closer to mile marker 8, Homer Thompson was going north on the same stretch of “The Dragon” when he lost control of his Harley Davidson Roadster in a right curve and hit an embankment. He was also taken to UT Medical Center by Lifestar.

All three people were wearing approved helmets. The crashes are both under investigation.
