OAK RIDGE (WATE) – The Oak Ridge/Anderson County NAACP discuss the recent shootings in Louisiana, Minnesota and Texas Monday evening.
The NAACP says the fatal shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile “underscore the need for policy and community interventions to halt the unwarranted killings of African Americans by law enforcement.”
They stressed that community engagement is necessary, especially after the recent events.
“We have to really be engaged with the community and we have to let everybody understand that we are here. The NAACP is effective in what we do,” said President Victor Stephens.
They also say the shooting deaths of five police officers and others who were wounded in Dallas are reminders of the horrific outcomes of gun violence.
