SNEEDVILLE (WATE) – A Hancock County man has now been formally charged with murdering his father and his father’s friend while attempting to steal a truck.
Ricky Helmick Jr., 30, was arrested in April on kidnapping charges after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Ricky Helmick Sr., 57, and Natasha Riley, 37, were found shot to death on Vardy Blackwater Road. Agents said at the time Ricky Helmick Jr. was a person of interest in the case. A grand jury returned indictments Monday on two counts of first degree murder, two counts of felony murder, one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of theft over $1,000.
TBI says Ricky Helmick Jr. also confined another relative in the incident. He has been at the Hamblen County Jail since his April arrest. His bond has now been set at $750,000.
