ONEIDA (WATE) – The Tennessee Department of Health says it was notified Thursday morning by Pioneer Community Hospital that Scott County’s only hospital would be closing at 8 a.m. on June 26.
The hospital sent a letter to the state last month saying they regret the “drastic yet necessary course of action, but as it stands now Pioneer Health Services can no longer financially sustain operations.”
Pioneer Health Services, Inc filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April. The company cites changes to the healthcare industry for their financial strains.
The hospital closed completely in May 2012 while it was under different ownership. The community spent a year and a half with no hospital.
