1 dead after Knox County car crash, ejected from vehicle

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A fatal car crash shut down a Knox County road early Thursday morning.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office and emergency crews responded to the incident on Andrew Johnson Highway near North Ruggles Ferry Pike at 2 a.m after a driver saw the crash and called 911.

Joshua Hethcoat, 26, of Dandridge was driving his Ford Explorer westbound on Andrew Johnson. Investigators say his vehicle left the road and rolled several times. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Investigators do not believe the victim was wearing a seat belt. The victim died at the scene.

Authorities closed North Ruggles Ferry Pike for one hour. The roadway is now open.
