Teen fights for life after Seymour motorcycle accident; deputies seek witnesses

SEYMOUR (WATE) – A 15-year-old boy is recovering after he says he was run off the road while riding a motorcycle in the Blount County section of Seymour.

A crash report from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office states Kobe McGinnis was going north on Jeffries Hollow Road just before 6 p.m. Tuesday when he veered off the side of the road and into a ditch. The impact threw McGinnis from the motorcycle and he landed in the middle of the roadway.

He told deputies a truck was on his side of the road and he swerved to miss it, but was unable to give a description of the truck.

McGinnis’ mother posted to Facebook that her son was on his way from a friend’s house and since his motorcycle was in third gear and there are no marks on the road, deputies believe his side of the story. Heather McGinnis says her son is in critical condition at UT Medical Center and required abdominal surgery.

Heather McGinnis said her son fought for his life overnight, but is improving.

Anyone with information on or witnessed the crash is asked to call Traffic Safety Officer Clyde Ingle at (865) 441-2360.
