ORLANDO, Fla. (WRIC) — As victims of Sunday’s massacre at an Orlando nightclub continue to heal, many of the ones overseeing their care are also recovering in a much different sense.

In the middle of such a tragedy, it’s easy to forget about the psychological turmoil many of the doctors, surgeons and nurses endure.

Reporter Parker Slaybaugh talked to staff at Orlando Regional Medical to find out how she and her fellow staff members are coping.

“It feels very unreal, it’s just very overwhelming that it’s happening here,” explained Meagan Noblet, a nurse at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

That overwhelming feeling was echoed by many staff members at the hospital who witnessed a horror scene Sunday morning that most hope to never see.

“It was somewhat of what you would think of as a war scene, trauma bay was very full, we had patients in every corner,” one doctor said.

That doctor said the day after the shooting, he was leaving work and spotted some staff members shaken up about the events that had unfolded.

“It’s hard to describe how you feel, but I know how they feel, they know how we feel and when the task comes to hand, you just do what needs to be done,” he explained.

“It was somewhat of what you would think of as a war scene, trauma bay was very full, we had patients in every corner.”

The hospital has started counseling for its staff, something many say they have taken advantage of. Many are thankful their close-knit team is there for one another.

“We have very good support here at the hospital and outside the hospital, so we have all come together, we have had some debriefings and everybody’s here for each other,” Noblet added.
