Things to do in East Tennessee: June 3-5

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – If you are not sure about your weekend plans, there are many things to do in East Tennessee. Residents can run through flavored color powder to compete in a disc golf competition. Here are events going on from June 3-5.

Friday-Saturday

Alzheimer’s Association garage sale

Bankers Life insurance company is hosting a two-day garage sale as part of “Forget Me Not Days” to raise money for the the Alzheimer’s Association. More than 20 families have donated items for the sale. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Knoxville Bankers Life office, 9131 Cross Park Drive.

Lenior City Arts and Crafts Festival

Arts and crafts fans can take part in one of the oldest and largest festivals in East Tennessee this weekend. The 54th annual Lenoir City Arts and Crafts Festival will be at Lenoir City Park. The festival has over 160 booths, live musical entertainment and the great storytelling of Sam Venable. Admission is $3 at the gate.

Bike, Boat, Brew and Bark

Attendees can ride their bikes, bring their dogs, go for a boat ride or enjoy beer from East Tennessee breweries at this weekend event.

The event will be at Volunteer Landing and feature Knoxville Powerboat Classic races, a pet photo contest, a bike tour, performances and more.

Tennessee Disc Golf Championship

The fun event will be held in Morristown starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Teams will compete on three courses. Registration for the event starts at 3 p.m. Friday at the Veterans Pavilion in Cherokee Park. There will be a player meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Horner-Daughtery Pavilion in Cherokee Park. The final round and award ceremony will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.

100 Black Men of Greater Knoxville, Inc Gala

The 100 Black Men of Greater Knoxville, Inc will be holding an event to support young people in the area. The organization’s 2016 Gala at 7 p.m and will feature former UT point guard Bobby Cornell Maze. The event will honor the life Zaevion Dobson, a 15-year-old who died saving his friends.

WATE 6 On Your Side’s Kristen Holloway and Brandon Rook will be emceeing the event.

The gala will be held at the Holiday Inn near World’s Fair Park. Attendees can purchase tickets for $60 from officers of the organization: Eston Williams, Rick Staples, Charles Brown and Brandon McGill.

The Flavor Run 5k

An unique color run will be held in Chilhowee Park Saturday at 9 a.m. Runners will run through fruit-flavored color powder. This is the event’s first year in Knoxville. Registration cost $25-60.

Sevier County Relay For Life

Sevier County’s Relay For Life will be from 2 p.m. to midnight at Patriot Park. WATE 6 On Your Side’s Bo Williams, Whitney Good and Josh Good will emcee the event. The event is free, including entertainment and activities. You don’t have to be part of a team to attend.

Different teams will sell concessions to help raise money. The event is going to be a lot of fun and will celebrate survivors.

Luminaria bags will be lit surrounding the track and guests will take a silent lap to honor survivors and loved ones that have lost their battle with cancer. The lap is led by a cancer survivor that plays Amazing Grace on the bag-pipe.
