NASHVILLE (WATE) – Tennessee’s sales tax holiday weekend will be a week earlier this year, running from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 29, to Sunday, July 31, at 11:59 p.m.
During this weekend, generally scheduled ahead of the first day of school in most areas, certain goods may be purchased tax free. Clothing $100 or less, school supplies $100 or less and computers $1,500 or less will all be tax free.
Tax free weekend was previously held in the first weekend of August, but the state legislature moved the dates up to the last weekend in July this year.

“It’ll save us close to 100 dollars towards the end,” said Alicia Walker, a parent shopping for school supplies.
Walker and her husband drove three hours from Kentucky to take advantage of tax free weekend.
“We might as well take advantage of it while it is here,” said Greg Walker.
The discounts do not come without big crowds and lines during the weekend.
“Oh my god. That was crazy. There was a lot of people. I guess the last weekend before school starts,” said Cindy Rauhuff.
However, some would rather deal with these crowds than go online.
“I don’t want to wait on it. I’d rather have it on hand when he starts school,” said Rauhuff.
