KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A special ceremony was held Friday honoring 225 years of Knoxville.
Tennessee Tourism Commissioner Kevin Triplett presented a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork to the city at James White’s Fort, the founding location of the city. The artwork was created by award-winning Knoxville-based design firm designsensory, featuring locations, events and notes of significance of the city’s 225 years. Each word is placed strategically to create the number 225 and the design is trimmed with a timeline of the city’s key events and accolades.
June 1 marked the official 220th anniversary of Tennessee becoming the 16th state in the union. Knoxville was considered the state’s first capitol.
