OAK RIDGE (WATE) – Normally, customers of one East Tennessee restaurant are able to sit anywhere they choose. However, during Memorial Day weekend, there was a table to pay honor to a special group.
The Chick-fil-A in Oak Ridge at 357 South Illinois Avenue, gave honor to fallen soldiers by reserving a table. The table was covered with a white table cloth and contained items of significance. Staff members placed a worn Bible, two flags, a black vase tied with a yellow ribbon, salt, red rose, silverware, a white candle and a sign inside a picture at the reserved spot.
The sign on the table reads:
This table is reserved to honor our missing comrades in arms. The tablecloth is white symbolizing the purity of the motives when answering the call to duty.
The single red rose which is displayed in a vase, reminds us of the life of each of the missing and their loved ones and friends of these Americans who keep the faith, awaiting answers.
The vase is tied with a yellow ribbon, a symbol of our continued determination to account for our missing.
A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears endured by those missing and their families who seek answers.
The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.
The glass is inverted to symbolize their inability to share this evening’s toast.
The chair is empty – they are missing.”
