KNOXVILLE (WATE) – One person was killed in what police say was a DUI crash early Saturday morning in West Knoxville.
Knoxville Police Department said charges are pending for Amanda Cross, 23, of Knoxville. Lynda Ray, 60 was killed.
The crash was reported at 12:21 a.m. on Middlebrook Pike near Old Middlebrook Pike. Knoxville police say Cross was going westbound, sideswiped a 2006 Chrysler and then crossed the center line and hit a 2002 Ford Focus head-on. Ray was pronounced dead at UT Medical Center.
Police said Cross was also transported to University of Tennessee where she was treated for several injuries. The driver of the Chrysler was not injured.
“The love of my life and my best friend, I don’t think I’ll run across anybody like that as long as I live,” said Kent Ray, Lynn’s Husband. “I’ll come out the other end with forgiveness.”
Lynn Ray was a retired special education teacher who worked in Knox County for 30 years.
