Bearden High School briefly on lockdown due to armed robbery nearby

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Bearden High School in West Knoxville was briefly put on lockdown Monday afternoon due to an armed robbery nearby.

Knox County Schools spokeswoman Melissa Tindell says the school went on soft lockdown shortly before dismissal due to the robbery and its vicinity to campus. Parents were notified via the automated notification system. The lockdown ended at 3:50 p.m. and students were dismissed at that time.

The Knoxville Police Department says it is trying to locate a suspect who ran off after the robbery, but did not provide any other details.
