KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Destination Imagination’s Global Finals will return to Knoxville this year from May 25-28. The non-profit organization dedicated to teaching students how to be creative using the principles of STEM and arts challenges holds its Global Finals each year, the world’s largest celebration of creativity.
At this year’s event, to be held at the University of Tennessee, 8,000 of the world’s most creative students will showcase their innovative solutions to this year’s challenge. Teams from as far away as Canada, China, Mexico, Poland, Turkey and Qatar will be in attendance. DI competitions begin each year with a regional tournament where team solutions are assessed by a panel of trained appraisers.
UT has hosted the Global Finals for 16 consecutive years, bringing nearly $30 million in revenue to the campus and surrounding businesses.
Children have the opportunity to design their own prototype of a Ford vehicle. The design challenge will be May 28 at World’s Fair Park Amphitheater. A panel of Ford Innovation Experts will judge the designs. The event is 10 a.m. to noon. To reserve a spot in the challenge, visit the Global Final’s website.
