Knoxville middle school students learn how to pilot drones

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A Knoxville private school is teaching the technology of drones. Tate’s School students got an introduction to drones Tuesday, as well as a flight demonstration.

The school believes it is the first dorne pilot curriculum designed for middle school students in East Tennessee. The lessons focus on mapping the campus with the drones and creating movies with the footage.

The instructor gave the students a very real scenario to practice Tuesday.

“We’re going to simulate a lost pet on the property and we’re going to try and find the pet,” said instructor Donald Gunter.

Gunter says everyone might have a drone in their home before long and this is a growing field anyone can learn about.
