JOHNSON CITY (WJHL) – Dozens of people rallied in Johnson City Saturday to support the legalization of marijuana in Tennessee. The group walked several blocks downtown carrying handmade signs that portrayed personal stories and pro-marijuana sentiments.
“This is not just your simple pothead thing,” said organizer David Michel. “It’s helping, it’s healing, and it’s medication for people who need it. The list of conditions that are treatable by cannabis in lengthy and growing every day.”
Another rally is scheduled to be held at the same location April 23 at 2 p.m.
In Tennessee, possession of any amount of marijuana, as little as a gram, is punishable by up to a year in jail.
