Fake ISIS attack article scares Knoxville residents

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Some viewers have reached out to WATE saying they have seen reports online of an ISIS attack in Knoxville. The article that has been circulating states that 17 people were killed, and shows images of police at a crime scene in an unidentified neighborhood where there was supposedly a gun battle with snipers on rooftops that sounds more like Call Of Duty than real life.

None of the information is true. There are several other articles on the blog with the exact same story for Akron, Edinburgh and several other cities.

After scrolling through the pages for a few moments, a small window pops up saying the website has been created “for charity,” and gives the option to donate. No specific charity is named, so the money would likely go directly to the scammers who created the site.

There have been no such attacks in Knoxville or the other cities mentioned.
