KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Oak Ridge Police Department reports they responded to a domestic disturbance call at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday. Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with a man who said his girlfriend was highly intoxicated, and had barricaded herself in the bathroom with several weapons.
At one point the woman threw a gun out the window, which prompted the SWAT team to arrive on the scene and take the woman into custody. She was transported to Methodist Medical Center for evaluation.
Investigators discovered more than 12 high powered rifles, shotguns, an assault rifle, a pistol and several boxes of ammunition. The investigation is continuing, and so far no charges have been filed.
The incident caused the closure of E. Tennessee Avenue Saturday morning for several hours, and led officers to advise residents to stay clear of the area. The roads are now re-open, and officials say there is no threat to the safety of people nearby.
