KNOXVILLE (WATE) — The University of Michigan and head coach Jim Harbaugh have drawn the ire of the SEC for Michigan’s decision to host spring practices at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida during it’s spring break.
The move, which is the first of its kind, has received national attention and has sparked a brewing twitter war between Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and Tennessee head coach Butch Jones. The twitter battle started Wednesday night when Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema tweeted that he may attend Michigan’s practice in Florida on Friday which is open to the public.
“After early meetings & lift tomorrow with our players. Thinking about heading to watch an open practice tomorrow at IMG with the staff.
#WPS” tweeted Bielema.
Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio then retweeted Bielema’s tweet asking him if he’d like to do lunch.
Wanting to join in on the fun, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones then asked both Bielema and Dantonio if he could join. “Mind if I join you guys for lunch?” Jones asked.
On Thursday afternoon Harbaugh responded to joins by tweeting, “Suggestion to my Rocky Top colleague, rather than lunch in Florida you might spend your time and focus attending to your present team.”
Jones has yet to respond. The Volunteers begin their spring practices on Monday.
