1 dead, 3 injured in East Knox County crash

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – One person is dead and three others were injured in a car crash in East Knox County Wednesday night.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a 2000 Chevy Blazer driven by Richard A. Merrell, 22, was going eastbound on Emory Road near Washington Pike around 7 p.m. when it topped the crest of a hill at a high rate of speed and crossed into westbound lanes. It then ran off the left side of the road and into a ditch.

Passenger Andrew Merrell, 14, was killed. Skylar Merrell, 16, and Clay Church, 16, were injured as was the driver. Church was the only one in the vehicle not wearing a seat belt.

Richard Merrell was listed in critical condition at UT Medical Center at last check. Skylar Merrell and Church are stable.
