KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knoxville Police Department said they arrested a man after they found him covered in blood and hair from another person.
Richard Mullins, 49, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Officers said they responded to an apartment located at 1161 Armstrong Avenue at around 12:38 a.m. after a 9-1-1 call reporting a disturbance.
Police said the 9-1-1 caller said he overheard yelling and banging sounds from an apartment was concerned someone may be injured. When officers approached the apartment they said they overheard a man yelling inside.
Mullins refused to open the door when officers knocked, according to police. When he finally agreed to open the door, officers said hair from another person was tangled on his fingers and on his clothing.
A woman was found lying on the floor unconscious and covered in blood, according to officers. The 53-year-old woman was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with multiple cuts, but police said she is expected to recover.
After Mullins was arrested police said he was “extremely incoherent and at times disorderly.” Police said Mullins lived with the woman. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
