Group suing to stop East Knox County business park development

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A Knox County group is suing to stop the development of the Midway Business Park.

The park has been in the works and under discussion for years. It would be situated just north of Interstate 40 in East Knox County at the intersection of Midway Road and Thorngrove Pike.

County Commission approved rezoning for the park in December. Ahead of that move, there was opposition from people living nearby who were concerned about changing the rural character of the area.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday is from the 8th District Preservation Association. They feel the site is unsuitable for any sort of intense development.

Mayor Tim Burchett hosted a public tour of the proposed site in September. His office said it couldn’t comment Tuesday because of the ongoing lawsuit.
