2nd dog found shot to death, dumped in Rockwood

ROCKWOOD (WATE) – Another dog was recently found shot to death and it has the community outraged. This is the second dog found shot to death on the side of a road in Rockwood and neighbors want justice.

Investigators say they don’t have much to go on at this point but they’re looking into it. However, neighbors are tired of this animal cruelty and believe these shootings are connected.

Raganne Randolph and her family found the dog, nicknamed “Jane dog,” while taking a walk on Deerhaven Road, lying out in the open for everyone, including kids to see.

“It’s scary to think that someone is around here doing that. Not even in the grass, not hidden at all. It was not disguised at all,” said Randolph.

Just a few weeks ago another community dog, many called “Baby,” was found dead nearby on Airport Road. Community members have since created a memorial for Baby.

“I don’t want to think that there’s somebody like this in our community,” said Randolph.

To help find justice for these two dogs, community members have been raising money for a reward through a Gofundme account.

“The Gofundme is to be used to gain information on who is committing these crimes,” said Teresa Clark, who started the fundraiser.

Their goal of raising a $500 reward has already been met. They hope they can raise even more so someone will speak up.

“This is a potentially escalating problem that whoever is doing this could escalate up from a dog then what’s the next step,” said Clark.

Randolph says her family buried “Jane dog” in their backyard. They noticed she had a collar, but so far, haven’t been able to find out who she belonged to. Community members say they have an idea of who might be killing the dogs, but they don’t have any hard evidence to prove it. They’re hoping the sheriff’s office will be able to solve this soon.
