Nashville drummer finishes show after falling out window

Video captures drummer falling out window, breaking rib.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — It’s a live performance that few in the crowd or the band will forget.

In the heat of a song, a drummer stood from his stool and ended up falling through the front window of a Nashville bar.

The fall was caught on camera and is now spreading on social media.’

In the video captured Friday night at Robert’s Western World on Broadway, you can see the drummer flipping backwards through the glass window and falling several feet to the concrete sidewalk.

The drummer, Stan Saxon with The Don Kelley Band, said he stood up to thank the crowd at the end of the night when he fell through the glass window of the legendary honky tonk.

“My ear monitor pulled me back, felt like somebody grabbed me by the shirt and yanked me to the ground. It was like the window wasn’t even there. The next thing I knew I was looking up at shards of glass going, ‘how did I get out here’,” Saxton said.

Patrick Harrigan, who was visiting from Chicago, was standing on the sidewalk when the glass shattered on him. “I was standing here with another couple waiting to get in and give my ID to the bouncer and all of a sudden ‘crash’ and the drummer fell out right on top of us and [there was] broken glass everywhere,” Harrigan explained.

Fortunately, the drummer wasn’t hurt.

“What was amazing was how nonchalant everyone was. The drummer just picked up his drum, put it back in the window, walked back in and we shook the glass off and the girl next to me was bleeding and had some cuts. The bartender gave her a Band-Aid and the band played on. It was fantastic,” said Harrigan.

Not only did the drummer finish his set inside Roberts, he also went across the street and played another four hours. “I was thinking the show must go on, I’ve got a job to do.” said Saxon.

Saxon found out Saturday morning he had actually broken his rib. “I fell straight down six foot to my back and broke my fifth rib on my left side,” he said.

However, his Music City spirit persevered as he was back on stage Saturday night playing again.
