KNOXVILLE (WATE) – This year’s Covenant Kids Run kicks off at the end of this month with the goal of helping kids in the Knoxville area be active and healthy.
Kids can get their first mile of the run in at the Knoxville Zoo on Saturday, January 30, at noon. The cost is $15, which covers both the one-mile fun run at the zoo and the Covenant Kids Run on April 2.
“Families are encouraged to attend the fun run at the Knoxville Zoo to get kids excited about completing their first mile as they start logging their own miles and physical activity with the goal of completing a staggered 26.2-mile marathon,” said Jason Altman, race director for Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon.
Each child will get a logbook to track miles or an exercise equivalent. The goal is for each child to complete a staggered 26.2 mile marathon over the course of just over two months. The children will complete the last mile at the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon race weekend in April. The kids run will start in World’s Fair Park and end in Neyland Stadium.
The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon’s 5K race will also take place on April 2, just after the kids run finishes. This way, older siblings and parents can cheer their kids on and then take part in the 5K, so the whole family can meet at the finish line.
Registration for the Kids Run kickoff at the Knoxville Zoo can be made in advance online or at the gate. The fee also includes free admission to the Knoxville Zoo for the participant and one accompanying parent. Additional guests can get into the zoo for half off.
In the event on inclement weather, the zoo event will be moved to February 6.
