KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A local couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Saturday.
The special event took place at Calhoun’s, with family and friends from across the country coming to join the two on their big day.
James and Mae Weaver met back when James was in the Coast Guard during World War II. The couple got married at the old courthouse in Knoxville, and remembers the day just like it were yesterday.
“It was a kind of snowy day that day,” said Mae Weaver.
The event was catered by Calhoun’s. The couple even had a wedding cake, which they didn’t have 70 years ago.
Family and friends said this was a great opportunity to get together.
“We are very excited and they are in amazing health and so, we are just very happy to celebrate it with them,” said granddaughter Christina Krumenacker.
The happy couple has 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
