KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Time is running out for Chick-fil-A’s cole slaw.
The popular side item is being permanently removed from the menu as of January 18. Chick-fil-A says it’s introducing new sides in response to customers who want more healthy choices on the menu.
On Jan. 18, Chick-fil-A will become one of the first quick-service restaurants to add kale to its menu nationwide. Knoxville was actually part of the taste test.
“Thanks to the feedback we received from our Knoxville guests during the test, we are happy to report the Chick-fil-A is adding the new Superfood Side to it’s menus nationally,” said Mark Baldwin with Chick-Fil-A.
The chain’s Superfood Side will include hand-chopped Broccolini and kale in a low calorie maple vinaigrette. Paired with the chain’s Grilled Nuggets and a diet beverage, Chick-fil-a says the full meal is 280 calories.
Chick-fil-A has released their cole slaw recipe so that fans of the slaw can still enjoy it at home. The company also penned a love letter on its website to its side dish, appropriately called “An Ode to Cole Slaw.”
To the Side that was never just a side item, here’s to the good times we’ve shared.
Some of us will remember you as the perfect topping to our original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. Some of us will reflect on the picnics we’ve shared or the combo meals we’ve savored. All in all it was a beautiful 49 years, Cole Slaw.
When you take your final bow January 18th, you will be gone but never forgotten.
To all the cabbage lovers out there, we feel you. To make the loss a little easier to bear, we’re releasing, for the first time, the original recipe to make at home…even on Sunday.
