POWELL (WATE) – Not only was a man in Anderson County charged with theft and evading arrest, but he will also face vandalism charges for running over several fences and mailboxes during a pursuit.
Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested Deshane Buress Thursday after a police chase through the Powell area. Before heading to jail, Buress was taken to the hospital to get checked out after officers fired a Taser at him.
Buress was spotted in a stolen pick-up truck by a sheriff’s deputy just before 9:00 a.m. Thursday. When the deputy tried to pull him over, the sheriff’s office said Buress fled.
The deputy followed Buress’ truck on several back roads through Powell in Anderson and Knox counties. He was eventually stopped after deputies deployed spike strips on Tillery Road that took out the truck’s tires.
The sheriff’s department said the Buress was taken into custody at Red Johnson’s Auto Parts on Clinton Highway in Powell. The owner of Creative Fabrication and Welding Services said the truck was stolen from their Oliver Springs business.
Buress had a prior criminal record according to the sheriff’s office.
