Fun facts about the Boxing Day holiday

LONDON (CNN) – Today is Boxing Day in the United Kingdom, Canada and many other former or current British colonies.

The holiday has nothing to do with the sport of boxing.

The holiday started by the tradition of giving “Christmas boxes” to servants and tradespeople on December 26th.

Just like Black Friday, it’s become a major shopping day where it’s celebrated.

Some traditions also include fox-hunting and a drink at the pub.

In Scotland, Boxing day is also known as St. Stephen’s day.
