OAKDALE (WATE) – Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said they’re working to investigate a fatal shooting in the Oakdale Community.

Investigators said between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. deputies found the body of a woman at a home located at 3444 Airport Road. Deputies said the woman was dead by the time investigators got to the home.

Morgan County Chief Deputy Steve Cochran said Erskine Andy Hunt, 35, has been named as a person of interest, but has not been formally charged. Cochran said Hunt is being held at the Morgan County Jail for unrelated charges.

The woman who was shot is believed to be Hunt’s girlfriend, according to Cochran. He said Hunt had been at the home for about two to three days. Family members say the woman shot is Dolly Meyers, 28, a daughter, sister and mother.

“Heartbroken. Can’t believe this happened to her. I was in shock when I got the phone call,” said Lisa McCulloch, the victim’s sister.

McCulloch is wrestling with the last time they saw one another.

“I talked to her on Thursday. She came to my house and she told me that she was doing better,” she said.

Meyers’ family says she was and is loved.

“She was sweet, and kind, and if someone needed the shirt on her back she would take it off and give it to them. She’s just so kind-hearted,” said McCulloch.

The family is overcome with grief so close to the holidays.

“She left behind her 8-year-old son and he’s taking it hard,” added McCulloch. “I don’t think she was supposed to go yet. She had not lived.”

Meyers’ sisters and father are praying for justice, saying their hearts are forever broken.

“She was robbed of her life,” said McCulloch.

Family members say funeral arrangements have been made for Meyers. Loved ones can gather on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. A service will follow and a graveside service will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cloyds Creek Cemetery in Greenback.

A GoFundMe account has been set up as well to help with funeral expenses. If you would like to donate, you can do so by clicking here.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says this is still an ongoing investigation.
