TAZEWELL (WATE) – Claiborne County Sheriff David Ray said a woman is in custody on four charges after a bomb threat at the Claiborne County Jail.
Ray says Hazel Irene Gray, 20, is charged with hoax device (threat), false report, interference with government operations and tampering with evidence. Bond was set at $100,000.
The sheriff says Gray called the jail saying she was strapped with an explosive device and was on her way to blow up the jail. No evacuation was ordered.
Officers were able to determine where the call came from and arrived at Gray’s home in the Goins Chapel Community where she and a man were taken in for questioning.
Deputies soon determined Gray was responsible for the threat. She is scheduled to appear in court on January 5.
