KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A tractor trailer fire led to the closure of the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 in Knoxville Wednesday night.
The fire was reported at mile marker 393 near the east end of I-640 around 9:45 p.m. Flames could be seen shooting from the truck.
The driver said he pulled over and tried to put out the flames himself before calling 911. When firefighters arrived, the flames had spread to the trailer and panels of styrofoam.
No one was injured.
The roadway reopened around 10:45 p.m.Traffic was temporarily diverted to I-640. The Tennessee Department of Transportation estimates the interstate will fully reopen around 11 p.m.
