KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A suspect has been arrested for allegedly stealing packages from homes in South Knox County.
Matthew Lee Elliott, 37, of Maryville, is charged with operation of a vehicle while prohibited (habitual motor vehicle offender) and theft.
Deputies arrested Elliott Tuesday just before 8 p.m. on Coatney Road. An officer pulled him over for traffic-related offenses and noticed packages in the vehicle. The officer called in detectives who determined they were stolen UPS packages that had been delivered to homes in South Knox County.
Some of the stolen property was returned to the victims while the rest was taken to the City-County Building for further investigation.
Elliott is being held on $10,000 bond. He has a criminal history that includes theft by shoplifting, possession of burglary tools, theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft, forgery, unauthorized use of a debit/credit card, theft of a vehicle or trailer, fugitive from justice, DUI, and underage consumption of beer.
