Knoxville Habitat for Humanity dedicates 500th home to Lanxter family

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Habitat for Humanity has been building houses in Knoxville for 30 years.

Tateanna Lanxter said she has never lived in a house. She was raising her 17-year-old daughter, 16-year-old son, and 10-year-old twins as a single mother in an apartment, but then she met the love her life, Tim Lanxter, and her life took off.

It was a packed house as the keys were handed over to the Lanxters. Nearly 100 people came out to celebrate and shed a few tears.

“I am so happy that me and my family we were picked to have the 500th build. It was such a blessing. Not am I only blessed with this home my baby just turned 18 years old today,” said Tateanna Lanxter.

It’s not often that someone smiles when they are handed their first mortgage statement.

The family will be moving in over the next few days and they will be in their home in time to celebrate Christmas. The tree is already up and they say this is the best present.
