HARROGATE (WATE) – A Claiborne County man faces charges after a suspicious package was found at the post office in Harrogate.
Shawn David Bailey, 26, is charged with aggravated criminal trespassing and having a hoax explosive device. Federal charges are pending.
The package was found at around 8:15 a.m. Friday by an employee at the Harrogate postal facility, according to Wendy Boles with the U.S. Postal Inspections. She said a hazmat team responded out of an abundance of caution. Knox County Bomb squad also responded.
Claiborne County deputies say electrical wires could be seen coming out of the package. The facility reopened after no explosive materials were found.
Deputies were able to locate Bailey at his home thanks to evidence found at the scene. A motive has not yet been determined.
