KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Local filmmakers received star treatment Wednesday night at the first ever East Tennessee Film Gala.
The screening was held at the historic Tennessee Theatre. More than 20 short films were shown in genres from horror to music videos to documentaries.
Organizers say they’re seeing a big growth of filmmaking in our area and the movies keep getting better and better.
“I’d really like to see this area become like a mecca in the south for filmmaking. It definitely has the potential to do so. There are so many quality crew people here and creative with the other industry happening. We’ve got the makings to do it, so why not do it?” said organizer Kelly Shipe.
The gala is also a competition, with categories in the main genres as well as individual awards for best actor, best director, best cinematographer, and more.
