KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Families who have lost loved ones to violent crimes gathered in downtown Knoxville Thursday night to remember them.
For the past seven years, a tree has been set up at the City County Building decorated with ornaments in honor of the victims of violence.
It’s a way to make an otherwise depressing holiday season for loved ones a little brighter.
“This is a very special time for me. Holidays are very hard if you’ve lost a loved one to a violent crime. This is our way of remembering our loved ones and a special time for us,” said Joan Berry, mother of murder victim Johnia Berry.
WATE 6 On Your Side Anchor Lori Tucker was an emcee. The event is hosted by the group “Hope for Victims” every year.
