NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 16-year-old girl named China Videon disappeared on Oct. 19, 1999.

Videon, a Riverdale High School student, was last seen by her mother at a beauty salon near the Jackson Heights shopping area in Murfressboro.

Video had planned to get gas and go home, but her mother never saw her again.

A candlelight vigil will be held to remember China Videon at Barfiled Crescent Park at 4 p.m. Monday, what would have been her 33rd birthday.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office detectives have been working on the case and are “closer every day” to making an arrest according to Detective Steve Kohler.

Angela Matthews and Dixie Smotherman Ashworth are sponsoring the vigil. They were both grade school friends of Videon.

“I knew something was seriously wrong,” Matthews said. “I just cried. We knew she didn’t run away.”
