KNOXVILLE (WATE) – North Knoxville business owners and neighbors were invited Thursday night to learn more about the city’s upcoming plans to renovate 12 blocks along North Central Street from Magnolia Avenue to Woodland Avenue.
The approximately $3.3 million infrastructure upgrade is set to start next spring when crews begin repairing and replacing sections of sidewalks. The next stages will include new curbs, “bulb outs” and other features for pedestrian safety, better defined on street parking, better-marked bike lanes, stormwater and utility improvements, resurfacing and landscaping.

The project also includes a linear park at Baxter Avenue and Central Street that officials say will serve as a gateway to the Happy Holler neighborhood.
Construction is set to be complete by the end of 2017.
