Brad Paisley apologizes to Blake Shelton for CMA zingers

NASHVILLE (WATE) – Leading up to the awards Shelton predicted he and ex-wife Miranda Lambert would field a joke about their divorce.

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood opened the CMA Awards with jokes about Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert’s breakup. “It’s cray cray how many couples have broke up this year, from Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Halle Berry and what’s his name,” Paisley said.

Brad PaisleyUnderwood said she “couldn’t ignore the breakup that really rocked our world. The one that’s on everybody’s mind. Two people in this very room that we all know and love: Splitsville.”

The camera turned to Kermit and Miss Piggy, then Paisley quickly added “On a completely unrelated topic, howdy Blake!” To his credit, Shelton waved and smiled at the cameras after Paisley’s comment.

“Thanks for being a great sport,” Paisley tweeted to Shelton Thursday. “Love ya bro.” The country music singer tweeted back to Paisley “Don’t worry brother. If there’s anybody on earth who’s learned to take its me!!! Love you buddy.”
