KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Have you ever left your doctor’s office with more questions than answers about your health care?
UT Medical Center is hoping to help patients navigate the health care system easier through the Health Literacy Forum on Monday, November 9, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Health Information Center at the hospital.
The forum is designed to put a spotlight on the issue of health literacy.
UT Medical Center says 90 million American adults, which is half the adult population, cannot understand or act on the health information they receive. Low health literacy leads to patients having problems locating providers and services, filling out complex forms and medical history, communicating with their doctor during appointments, managing chronic conditions and understanding their medications and instructions.
This results in poor patient outcomes and increased healthcare costs.
