Nashville gears up for 49th annual CMA Awards

The 49th annual CMA Awards will air on WATE 6 On Your Side beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Nashville is gearing up for Wednesday night’s 49th annual CMA Awards show.

The much anticipated-show will be held at the Bridgestone Arena in the heart of downtown Nashville.

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will return to the stage as hosts for the eighth year in a row.

Tim McGraw will kick-off the event with a free concert outside the Bridgestone Arena.

A line of people waited to catch a glimpse of McGraw’s performance early Wednesday morning.

McGraw’s performance will air on ABC’s Good Morning America between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Little Big Town crushed it with their song “Girl Crush” and are tied with Eric Church with five nominations each at this year’s Country Music Association Awards.

For the seventh time, Andy and Allison and the Morning Crew won a CMA Award.

Country music star and Knoxville native Kelsea Ballerini called WIVK in Nashville to tell Andy Ritchie, Alison Mercer and Jimmy Holt they won the Broadcast Personalities of the Year award.

The radio station was also named Medium Market Station of the Year for the 10th year.

The 49th annual CMA Awards will air on WATE 6 On Your Side beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
