MARYVILLE (WATE) – A teen boy is recovering in the hospital after he was hit by a car in Blount County Tuesday night while riding his skateboard.
The Blount County Sheriff’s Office says Max Vettel, 17, was skateboarding on the right side of the westbound lane of Morganton Road near Ratledge Road around 7:30 p.m. when he was hit by a 2011 Kia Soul
The impact caused Vettel to travel onto the hood of the vehicle and into a ditch. Another person riding a bicycle in front of Vettel was not hurt.
Neither the driver of the Kia nor the other three people in her car were hurt. The driver will not be cited in the accident.
Vettel was not wearing a helmet or any other safety equipment. He is currently at UT Medical Center in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
