SPEEDWELL (WATE) – A wounded veteran received the surprise of a lifetime this week, finding out he’ll be getting a new wheelchair-friendly home.
U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Cody Evans was hurt in Afghanistan in 2011 when an IED exploded, leaving him a double amputee.
“A Soldier’s Journey Home” is a non-profit that helps build specially-adapted homes for wounded veterans. Evans says he was touched to see the outpouring of support.
“There’s a lot more people than I thought that really care that much and that want to help,” he said.
Seventy-five volunteers will help build the new home in Speedwell next spring. Donations can be made to FDNY/ VFW, A Soldier’s Journey Home, PO Box 1297, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
