KNOXVILLE (WATE) — Tennessee head coach Butch Jones announced that freshman defensive tackle Shy Tuttle will miss the rest of the season on Tuesday.
Tuttle suffered a broken fibula and tore a ligament in his foot Saturday against Georgia.
The injury happened in the 3rd quarter of the Vols 38-31 victory over the Bulldogs.
“That is a big big blow to our football team,” said Jones. “I thought he was continuing to progress and get better and better and better and really had developed into one our play makers on defense.”
The Vols will be left with searching for a fifth defensive tackle, a position in which they were already lacking depth.
“Kendall Vickers, Danny O’Brien, Owen Williams, and Kahlil McKenzie, will all have to step up” said InsideTennessee.com’s Danny Parker.
Coach Jones also mentioned that Quay Picou could see time at the defensive tackle rotation as well.
The Vols are on their bye week and will return to the field October 24th when they visit Alabama.
