LUTTRELL (WATE) – A body found in Union County earlier this week has been identified as a Grainger County man who was reported missing in July.
Matthew Munsey, 35, of Washburn, was reported missing on July 30 by a family member who said she last saw him on July 22. The Grainger County sheriff requested assistance from the TBI and, along with Granger and Union county investigators, were able to determine he was last seen at a home in Union County on July 23.

Crews searched the area, but did not find him. After following many leads, another search was organized on Wednesday and extended to a wider area. That afternoon, a search team utilizing a canine found human remains in a wooded area off Park Road, about a third of a mile from where Munsey was last seen.
The remains were positively identified as Munsey’s on Friday. His cause of death has not yet been determined.
