MAYNARDVILLE (WATE) – After 30 years, the Union County jail is certified.
That means the state will start funding the facility instead of Union County tax payers. This includes inmate’s medical bills .
Sheriff Bill Breeding told WATE 6 On Your Side he and his staff have been working on the project all year.
“They’ve worked very hard to achieve this goal,” said Breeding. “In fact the jail inspector when he first came here a year ago said the jail wouldn’t be certifiable. We just came back from Nashville with a certified jail.”
Breeding also said they’ve had to correct a lot of problems and deficiencies in the jail.
