KNOXVILLE (WATE) – It’s the week Volunteers fans have been waiting for, the build-up to the first football game.
This year’s game will be played at Nissan Stadium against Bowling Green, but Jones said even though the game is being played in Nashville he still wants a home field advantage in terms of noise and crowds, saying it a great opportunity to reward fans in the mid-state.
Jones says this game week will tell him the maturity growth and development of the team. “First game is the game of unknowns,” said Jones. “This football team could be younger than Team 118.”
The University of Tennessee Head Coach said winning against Bowling Green is critical. He said Bowling Green’s skill positions are very dramatic and to beat them, the Volunteers will have to play their best collective football game to date.
“Their football program knows how to win. They’ve won championships, they’ve played in big venues,” he said. “Very, very good skill players. Very, very dangerous. Do a great job getting ball in hands of play-makers.”
Addressing player injuries, Jones announced Vincent Perry will be out for the season after surgery. He said Croom’s surgery went well, but he doesn’t have a time frame for when he will be able to play again.
