MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Middle Tennessee State University fraternity has been suspended despite removing a controversial banner that was hung on their off-campus frat-house.
The banner, which read, “Freshman girls info center,” was recently hung from a second story window of the Theta-Omega chapter of the Sigma Pi house.
Sigma Pi released a document Tuesday stating the chapter would be suspended pending an investigation.
Jimmy Hart, Director of News and Media Relations, said the sign was discovered by a local fraternity leadership who reported the banner was up for about 30 minutes.
However, two members of the fraternity told News 2 the banner was only up for “five or 10 minutes” before it was taken down.
MTSU officials said they did not make the fraternity remove the sign.
The school released a statement that read, “The sign in question is inconsistent with the values we promote as a university. We have shared our concerns with the fraternity’s national headquarters and await feedback. We will continue to gather information as we determine whether action by the university is warranted.”
