Georgia student shot after classmate brings gun to school

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – School officials said a K-8 student brought a gun to school and accidentally shot another student in Augusta, Georgia.

Richmond County Board of Education Spokesperson Israel Butler said a female student was shot by a male student at W.S. Hornsby . “While playing with the gun inside a desk, a student accidentally discharged the weapon and another student was struck,” he said.

The injured student was transported to a hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Butler said the student’s parents have been notified and the student that brought the gun to school is in custody.
